Hi friends! Today I’m creating a loose and whimsical mixed media landscape in my sketchbook, starting with a simple watercolor base and gradually building up the scene with colored pencils, markers, NeoArt crayons, and other mixed media supplies. I’m working from a photo reference, but instead of trying to recreate it exactly, I’m taking plenty of creative license with the colors, shapes, textures, and details.

This is a fun way to approach a landscape when you don’t want to worry about making it realistic. By layering different media and experimenting with color and mark making, we can turn a simple reference photo into something much more playful and personal.
