Abstract Watercolor Floral Painting with Marie’s Masters Watercolors

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to do a quick and loose floral abstract watercolor painting. I felt like using some darker colors, so I started with a background wash using lighter earthy tones on dry paper. This way, I could get some nice brush texture.

I used Marie’s Masters watercolors, which are really pigmented and go down on the paper beautifully. I played around with blues and purples, just letting the colors flow and not having a specific plan in mind.

For the flowers, I used a wet-on-dry technique, double dipping my brush to get some color variation. I also used a mix of purples and blues, adding some yellows and grays for contrast.

There were a couple of happy accidents in this painting. Once, I accidentally left a black brushstroke on the side, but I decided to turn it into part of the composition by adding some leaves and grasses around it.

Another time, I got a little carried away with the gold pen accents and ended up adding too much. However, I was able to fix it by going over it with a damp brush and some watercolor paint.

The key takeaway here is that even if you mess up, you can always fix it! Don’t be afraid to experiment and have fun with your watercolors.

I’m really happy with how this abstract floral painting turned out, with its dark and moody colors and unexpected gold accents. I hope you enjoyed this process video and feel inspired to create your own watercolor art!
