Sketchy Flowers in a Vase over Abstract Watercolor Background: Easy Doodle Art or Greeting Card

Sketchy Flowers in a Vase over Abstract Watercolor Background Easy Doodle Art or Greeting Card

Hey everyone, it’s Kate again! I’m using my favorite new tool, the quill brush, to mix some paints. Here’s what I came up with: a muted red with a touch of tree green, and a bright orange yellow. I love the combination!

For this doodle, I’m working wet-on-wet, which means I’m adding paint to a wet surface. I like the unpredictable effects you can get with this technique. I splashed some orange yellow, then went in with the red at the bottom, and softened it all up with some Payne’s Gray.

I rinsed my brush in between colors to keep things from getting muddy, and then added some more red and Payne’s Gray to create some depth. After letting it dry, it was time for the fun part: doodling!

The watercolors turned out beautifully cloudy, with some really nice orange tones. I grabbed a couple of pens and decided to create a little bouquet of flowers in a vase. I wasn’t aiming for perfection here, instead, I just let my hand flow and sketched some loose shapes. I added some thickness to some edges to give them a bit more definition.

For the flowers, I sketched some simple stems and petals, making sure to give them a variety of shapes and sizes. I wanted them to look loose and casual. I even added a couple of leaves coming off the stems for some extra detail.

To finish it off, I used a white pen to add some sketchy highlights and accents. I concentrated on the darker areas to make the colors pop a bit more. I also added some random white scribbles for some extra texture.

Finally, it was time for my favorite part: gold details! I used a gold paint pen to create some lines around the image. I also added some gold dots in the corner.

And there you have it! A quick and easy doodle using watercolors and some simple doodling techniques. I hope you enjoyed this little creative session with me!
