Dream Big in a Mini Art Journal with Acrylic Paints, Geometric Shapes, and a White Pen

Hey everyone, it’s Kate here with an art journal today! I wanted to do something fun and relaxing, so I decided to grab my ruler and sketching pencil and doodle some geometric shapes on a mini journal spread. I didn’t have a specific plan in mind, but I just wanted to get started and see where it took me.

I also grabbed some craft paint and filled in my geometric shapes with different colors. It was a great way to work on my brush control and experiment a bit. As I was working, I realized I could always paint over anything I didn’t like, so I wasn’t afraid to just have fun with it. This is the beauty of art journaling!

For my stencils, I just used everyday objects around the house! I traced circles with the lid of a spray bottle and even used the hole in my ruler. You really don’t need fancy supplies to be creative – just a little imagination!

The spread came together really quickly, and the paint dried fast which was great. Sometimes the worst part about art journaling is waiting for things to dry! I tend to get impatient and want to jump right into the next step, but sometimes I’ll use a heat gun, blow dryer, or work on another project while I wait.

For the next part, I wanted to contrast all the sharp angles with some round shapes. So, I decided to add some planets and stars to my spread. I used white paint first to create a base coat for the circles, and then went in with contrasting colors like red and yellow to make different shades of orange and magenta. The white base coat really makes the colors pop!

Filling in all those circles was a bit time-consuming, but I love the way it turned out. It’s amazing how you can create something with just a few simple supplies. You don’t even need a ton of different colors – you can mix and match to create new shades.

I used a white Uniball pen for the finishing touches, like adding rings to my planets. Pens can be a little tricky sometimes on certain surfaces, but I love the pigment in this ink.

Overall, I had a lot of fun creating this mini journal spread. It’s a great reminder that you don’t need a lot of fancy supplies to be creative. Just grab what you have around the house and let your imagination run wild! I hope you enjoyed this video, and until next time, keep creating!
