Art Therapy! Easy Watercolor Painting Abstracts and Relaxing Doodle Art

I dug out my very first watercolor palette and even though it was dry and cracked, the paint re-wet beautifully when I used it in my last video. Today, I grabbed a giant quill brush and decided to just play around and see where the colors took me. I started with some intuitive watercolor painting, wetting my paper and grabbing some of my favorite colors: Prussian Blue, Rose, and Mauve. The Prussian Blue is one of my favorites and this brush holds a ton of water, so I was able to get a nice, dark wash going.

I decided to add some yellow ochre next, being careful not to go overboard. I like to embrace a little muddiness sometimes because it adds visual interest. After letting everything dry, I really liked how the colors came together and decided to add some doodles. I used a white pen to outline a path that meandered through the painting and then added some white pebbles along the way.

Next, I wanted to turn some of the shapes into little cacti. I used the white pen again to create loose outlines and then went over them a couple of times for a sketchy look. Since I was out of my comfort zone with the cacti, I decided to use my favorite dots instead of needles.

I finished the piece off with a pink shimmery pen, adding some lines and softening up the borders. I decided not to add any black because there was already a lot of dark color and I liked the contrast between the white and the light colors. Overall, I am really happy with how this turned out! I hope you enjoyed the video!
