Easy Cactus Acrylic Painting with Doodles, Stencils & Paint Markers for Beginners

Hey there! In today’s quick and fun painting session, I played around with some fall vibes using orange.

First, I went in with a bright orange, mixing the colors right on the page for a more casual look. I toned it down a bit with some white and yellow, letting them peek through for a little contrast. It’s amazing how these little pops of color can break up a flat tone!

Feeling the fall season approaching (even though it’s still August!), I decided to incorporate some complementary colors. Since orange and blue are opposites, I knew the blue would really make the orange stand out. I used a stencil for a bit of a southwestern feel and lightly blended the blue with my brush. It doesn’t have to be perfect – a little unevenness adds to the charm!

For another layer of texture, I used a different stencil with a diamond pattern. This time, I went with a light white and yellow mix, making sure the blue stayed the main focus.

After letting everything dry, I mixed up some of the leftover colors on my palette to create a green. With that, I painted a simple little succulent and its pot. I wanted to keep it basic and focus on the doodling fun to come.

To add some dimension, I mixed a neutral brownish color with orange and white for the terra cotta pot. I even gave one of the succulents a lighter shade for some variation.

Now for the fun part – doodling! I grabbed my new Artistro paint pens, which come in 12 colors for my set. I started with white to outline the pot and succulent, adding some simple designs and stripes. These pens write really smoothly, though the white wasn’t quite as opaque as I’d hoped.

Keeping with the doodly vibe, I went in with wavy lines, stripes, and dots to create a playful texture. Art is all about finding what you enjoy, and for me, this loose and messy style is really fun!

To finish it off, I added some lines for the cactus needles, making sure to stagger them for a more natural look. I love how this little succulent turned out – so cute and bright!

Overall, I was happy with this one! The textures are interesting, the turquoise pops, and the doodly cactus adds a whimsical touch. I hope you enjoyed following along with this project, and if not this time, maybe you’ll join me on the next one!
