Hey everyone, it’s Kate! So, I was in my art room today when a little delivery from Amazon showed up. I figured, why not do a quick watercolor abstract with my palette and then try out these new Artistro acrylic paint pens on top?
First things first, I’m prepping my palette by spraying it down with some water to activate my paints. Today, I’m feeling a portrait orientation for my painting.
I gotta say, I’m loving this rich turquoise hue. It’s spreading so nicely on the paper. After laying down the base, I’m rinsing my brush and blotting it to soften up those edges and create a nice gradient effect.
Alright, time to add some pops of brightness! I’m dipping into my lemon yellow, which might seem a bit light at first, but trust me, it packs a punch when you load up your brush. I’m layering it over some of that turquoise to let the colors blend and mingle.
I really like how the colors are flowing together, but let’s kick it up a notch with some more yellow. I’m dropping it in here and there, letting it flow across the paper and create some interesting shapes.
Now, let’s introduce a bit of green into the mix. I’m grabbing Peak Green from the palette and layering it over the other colors to add some depth. It’s all about building up those layers.
As I’m painting, I’m mindful of keeping those edges soft and letting the colors blend naturally. A touch of yellow ocher can tone it down and add some earthiness to the mix.
Once I’m happy with the overall look, it’s time to let it dry and move on to the fun part: doodling! I’m starting with white pens, testing them out on a separate piece of paper first to make sure they’re good to go.
With the white pen in hand, I start adding some doodles on top of the dried watercolor. From swirls and loops to dots and dashes, I’m having a blast adding those finishing touches.
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! It’s all about practice and having fun with mark-making. Thanks for hanging out with me today while I painted and doodled. Until next time, keep creating!
