Unboxing, Swatching, and Trying the Original Vintage Derwent Watercolor Pencils from the 80s!

Hey everyone, it’s Kate, and I’ve got something special for you today. I stumbled upon this Derwent watercolor 42 pencil set at an antique mall not too long ago, and I thought, why not give it a whirl? So, I’m doing an unboxing, swatching, and a bit of painting with them, all on camera. Now, this set is well-loved, missing a few pencils, but hey, that adds character, right? I reached out to Derwent’s customer service, and they gave me the info: this set dates back to 1983! They also assured me that the watercolor pencils would still be perfectly wonderful to use! So, let’s dive in together.

First up, the swatching. Now, I’m no watercolor pencil pro, but I’m excited to give these a shot. The colors are popping, and they glide on like a dream. I’m loving the variety, from vibrant to earthy tones. And can we talk about that rose pink? It’s like a subtle neutral, so versatile. As I work my way through the palette, I’m already brainstorming all the projects I could use these for.

Now, onto the painting. I decided to keep it simple, creating a leafy motif with some of my favorite colors. The contrast against the background is awesome, especially with that deep Indigo. And here’s where the magic happens: a touch of water brings everything to life.

But why stop there? I’ve got these metallic paint markers begging for attention. A few dots here and there add a touch of sparkle to the piece. And who can resist a bit of silver and rose gold?

I can’t help but marvel at what these pencils can still do after 40 years. They may be vintage, but they’ve still got it. So, if you ever come across a set like this, snatch it up. Trust me, it’s worth it. Until next time, keep creating!
