Alright, in today’s video I’m diving into intuitive watercolor painting! I started by wetting my palette and paper thoroughly, because I love working wet-on-wet. Today I’m using my new MeiLiang watercolor palette, and it’s new so I’m having fun exploring all the colors.
I grabbed a quill brush and started adding some color – a beautiful emerald green and a vibrant violet. These colors bleed and blend so nicely on wet paper. I added some burnt umber for a touch of earthy neutrality, and then revisited the emerald green.
This watercolor is all about letting the colors flow freely, and I love the surprises that happen. I decided to add a metallic color – flash purple. It has a subtle shimmer that’s hard to capture on camera, but it adds a nice touch!
I continued layering colors, adding burnt sienna and some pops of yellow. The yellow creates a beautiful backlit effect against the darker colors. Once I was happy with the base colors, I let it dry completely.
Then, it was time for the fun part – mark making! I grabbed some white and started drawing loose shapes and boxes to create some abstract doodles. I wanted to keep it light and playful, so I wasn’t too careful about my lines.
I felt like it needed a little something extra, so I grabbed my gold paint marker and added some dots and accents.
This piece was all about experimentation and having fun, and even though it’s a bit unusual, I think it turned out pretty cool and I’m happy with how this practice session turned out. I hope you enjoyed watching along, and until next time, keep creating!
