How to Create Layered Effects and Textures with Alcohol Ink and Acrylic Paint

Hey guys! So today I’m playing around with some leftover orange acrylic paint and some teal alcohol ink I made. I thought it would be fun to see what kind of effects I could get by using a watery mix of acrylic paint and then dripping alcohol ink on top.

The trick is that the acrylic needs to be wet for the alcohol ink to work its magic. So, I brushed on a bunch of watery orange paint and then immediately grabbed my dropper with the teal ink. It created this cool marbled effect – love it! I did a few more layers with some white paint in between, letting everything dry in between coats.

I wasn’t done experimenting though! I grabbed another piece of paper that I had previously painted black and decided to see what would happen if I tried the same technique on a dark base. It wasn’t exactly what I pictured, but there was still this beautiful texture and some of the black peeking through, so I called it a win.

Lesson learned: experimentation is key! Don’t be afraid to play around and see what happens. Sometimes the coolest effects come from just messing around with leftover paint.

Speaking of leftover paint, I had another piece of paper lying around and this time I went with a white base, then some more watery orange and teal layers. This one turned out so cool with these subtle color changes and textures. I can’t wait to do more of these!

Finally, I took the orange and white layered piece and played around some more after it dried a bit. I dripped some extra teal ink on top, and it created these neat little greenish pools where the orange and teal mixed a bit. Love the texture on this one too!

Overall, I ended up with three pretty awesome pieces of textured paper that are just begging for some doodles, but that’s a project for another day. The point is, you can totally experiment with alcohol inks and paint at home, and you can even make your own without buying expensive supplies (permanent marker + alcohol does the trick)! To make these fun textures, just use some rubbing alcohol and regular acrylic paint (make sure it’s super watery though). Hope you enjoyed this video as much as I enjoyed playing around today!
