Hey everyone, it’s Kate here! I’m so glad you’re joining me today. Today, I’m doing another watercolor painting, but first, I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s been subscribing and leaving comments. At the time of recording, I’m close to 100 subscribers, which is amazing! I never thought I’d get this far. It means so much to me that people enjoy what I’m doing. So, thanks again, and if you’re new here, welcome! I hope you’ll enjoy spending some time with me today.
I’m working with my MozArt Komorebi palette today, and I wanted to create a really flowy watercolor piece. I decided to experiment with some salt for texture. I prepped the watercolor paper by spraying both sides with water to make it extra moist, because I’m definitely going for a wet-on-wet look today. I grabbed my cat’s tongue brush and dipped it in to make a bluey, greenish, yellowy wash. I’m really just playing around and having fun, which is the main reason I love art!
I know a lot of people can feel intimidated by art, like they don’t know what they’re doing. Believe me, I’ve been there! But at the end of the day, art is for you. It’s your interpretation of the world, and it’s a great way to share yourself with others. There are no rules, and that’s the beauty of it! You can express yourself however you see things.
Art is like having an opinion, just like how we all have different preferences on everything from stain removal to cars. Our life experiences and cultures shape how we see the world, and we can share those unique perspectives through art. That’s what makes the art world so powerful, being able to visually express so many things.
I think everyone has the ability to enjoy art, and we are all artists in some way, even if we’re not painters. I remember when I first started out, I felt like I had to create art a certain way. There are definitely some things that are universally appealing, like composition and color combinations. Color theory is important, with cool tones, warm tones, complementary colors, and so on. It’s a great way to establish your style.
But for me, the biggest hurdle was trying to copy something I liked. Sure, with practice I might have gotten there eventually, but then it wouldn’t have been my own work. Once I realized I didn’t have to be anything but myself, it opened up a whole new world.
Now, the most important thing is whether my art is progressing the way I want it to. Is it appealing to me? Does it accurately convey what I want others to see? I’m still figuring things out in this world of painting and art journaling, but with every piece I create, I learn a little more about myself and how I see things. The journey itself has been so rewarding.
Obviously, there’s a long way to go with building my skills, but it’s been such a fun ride, and I’m so happy to be able to share it with you here. It’s also a great way for me to stay accountable and make time for my art. It’s easy to let things slide, but making creative time is so important for personal growth and development.
I hope these videos are helpful, even if they’re just background noise while you work on your own projects. And of course, if you want to follow along, that’s great too! I’m really looking to build a supportive community here, a place where people who share similar interests can exchange ideas and techniques.
There are probably people watching from all walks of life, from complete beginners to professional artists who stumbled upon my videos. I would love to hear from you! Maybe one day we’ll hit another subscriber milestone!
But really, the most important thing to me is the community here. I’m so glad you’re visiting.
So, here’s what I ended up doing with this piece. I sprinkled some salt on the wet paint while it was still really moist, and then let it dry. It looked like the perfect time to add a second layer, and I added some darker color to really increase the contrast. After it dried, it actually reminded me of an abstract waterfall with some greenery around it. I loved how the salt created a blossoming effect. I hope you enjoyed watching this video, and until next time, keep creating!
