Hey everyone, it’s Kate here! Today, I decided to dive into some art with a spontaneous background creation using three lovely colors from Apple Barrel paints: Territorial Beige, Cameo Pink, and White. I love mixing paints and seeing what happens, so I went for it with a “willy nilly” approach, letting the colors blend organically on the page.
I’m working on a budget-friendly watercolor paper, which might not be the fanciest, but it’s perfect for experimenting and practicing. Sure, it might not handle watercolor like a pro-grade paper, but sometimes that unexpected texture adds character to your piece.
As I paint, I muse about my recent Hobby Lobby finds. The clearance section there is a goldmine for art supplies, and I can’t resist a good bargain. Plus, who doesn’t love stumbling upon new tools and materials?
I enjoy playing with different color combinations, like mixing Tuscan Teal, Cameo Pink, and a dash of Yellow for a warm hue. Once the background is dry, I brainstorm ideas for what to add next, settling on some stencils for a touch of texture.
After experimenting with stencils, I decide to incorporate some organic elements like leaves and bubbles. I like to keep things light, allowing the background to peek through, adding depth and dimension to the piece.
Now comes the fun part – adding a little collage with a butterfly image and some paper strips. It’s amazing how a simple addition can tie everything together and bring a sense of whimsy to the artwork.
Finally, I add some finishing touches with paint markers, outlining shapes and adding details. I could keep tinkering forever, but at some point, you have to call it done and appreciate the journey.
Thanks for joining me on this artistic adventure! Let me know in the comments what you think and if you’d like to see more of these creative sessions. Until next time, keep creating!
