About Kate Miles Art

Life is beautiful!

No, really, it is.

Or at least, we have the power to make it so.

Hi, friends! My name is Kate. And here you will find a lot of things about me and what I love, all of which I want to share with you.

I started the Kate Miles Art YouTube channel in July 2023 with the hope of documenting my own art journey, connecting with fellow creatives, and offering help to people either just starting out or a little way along their journey like I am. Since my very first upload, I have been working hard to build my skills and provide quality content to a growing community of people who want to put the folks back into folk art.

You see, I don’t like taking myself too seriously, and we’re all in this journey together. So I’ll fumble along, learning as I go, and I invite you all along for the ride to a destination that is beautiful and amazing because we created something together.

You’ll see my editing skills in my very first art video ever created are absolutely terrible! You’ll hear my cat cameos, background noises, and some laughs as I make a mistake in a project. You’ll see it all because it’s real. You’ll also see the improvements that we both make together as we find our unique styles and also common ground. And we’ll have fun! (even if I did forget to hit the record button on something and had to redo it twice)

So grab your art supplies, take a look around this website, and I hope you’ll also visit me on YouTube. As this site grows, I’ll be adding more and more content to share with you so we can take this art journey together.

About Me

I live in the US in Indiana with my better half, and a cat who likes to give kisses just like the most loyal dog. We make up songs that have her name in the lyrics, and she is the boss. I love to cook, read, and I keep making attempts at a garden that sometimes works and sometimes gets choked by weeds that I swear come in the middle of the night! I took art classes in high school and dabbled here and there, but nothing major. I started my adult art journey in early 2018 after the loss of a loved one caused me to turn to art for comfort, which was a great love of theirs. I practiced very sporadically until this past year when I committed to growing my ability, confidence, and love for art.

My first real watercolor paints I ever bought (besides a $5 cake palette) were Royal & Langnickel Essentials tubes I got from Walmart. They were inexpensive, and not the best quality compared to things I’ve tried since. However, they were the best supplies I had ever purchased to that point and I loved them dearly. I still have them today, and I’ll paint with them occasionally.

The point is, anyone can make art, and we all have to start somewhere. Art is human and goes back to the beginning when people were making paintings in caves and Lord knows where else. It’s an expression of ourselves, the world around us, the way we understand things, and the things that we think are beautiful. It’s extremely personal, but also meant to be shared. Hopefully, you’ll join me in creating!
