Hey friends, it was Kate! I hope you are having a fantastic day. I dived into a watercolor adventure with my Marie’s Masters palette. I wanted to get creative with some abstract watercolor and explore different mark-making tools.
For my palette, I stuck to a limited color scheme of blues and browns: indigo, burnt umber, burnt sienna, and a touch of Prussian blue. I mixed up some watery burnt umber and yellow ochre, laying down some paint with my quill brush.
Then, I added some indigo and the other colors, but experimented with different marks including scraping with my palette knife, brushing with a dry bristle brush, and using my air blower tool to spread paint with a bit of splatter effect. This was such a fun process and the painting had so many layers of interest.
As the painting dried, I was struck with an idea that I’d like to add leaves. So, I grabbed some collage pieces I made earlier and traced their shapes with a green Posca pen. Then, I broke out my gold ink that I got on Temu a while back to add that extra sparkle. I serious love this gold ink, it’s got incredible coverage, low odor, and it dries permanent.
I hope you enjoyed joining me on that creative journey. Thanks for watching, and until next time, keep creating!
